December saw the annual winter cycle safety giveaway at Hereford, when the Herefordshire Council travel officers visited both Yazor and Grandstand Road factories to distribute over 150 sets of safe cycling equipment consisting of reflective clothing, bike lights, bells, torches and wet weather gear, to Avara colleagues. This is the eighth year Tina Kilner and her colleagues have worked with us to promote safe transport and were hosted this year by Sonia Barros who leads Avara’s safe cycling initiative in Hereford.
Group Environment Manager at Avara Foods Ollie Holmes commented “I’m proud to have watched this initiative grow over the last eight years. As anyone who lives in Hereford knows, the traffic can be awful at times and the more cars we can help take of the roads at rush hour the better, whilst ensuring our colleagues cycle and walk as safely as possible.”
As in previous years, council officers will visit again in the spring to sign Avara staff up to walking and cycling challenges designed to reduce local congestion and improve quality of life. More details on the Choose How You Move initiative can be found on the Herefordshire Council website.
