This year’s Onion Fayre in Newent, sponsored by Avara, was held on Saturday 8th September and attracted an estimated 15,000-20,000 visitors to the event.
Since it’s resurrection in 1996, Newent Onion Fayre has grown to fill the whole town centre and park with an assortment of stalls, caterers and entertainment.
Amongst diverse stalls locals and visitors could enjoy the Food Village, the Funion Zone, the Onion Show and the annual Onion Eating Competition, which this year saw an eye-watering new record of 45 seconds to eat the 7oz onion, a whopping 30 seconds quicker than last year. Well done to our very own Avara representation in the form of onion eater Kevin Davies.
Many Avara Colleagues came along to support the event, helping out with refreshments, manning the stalls and providing fun activities for all in the Funion Zone, including entertainment from Chicken Kev. Julian Culshaw, Operations Manager at Avara Foods Newent Site said, “We are delighted to sponsor this unique local event. It’s an important event to the Community of Newent and brings many visitors to the Town each year.”
David Sass, Sponsorship and Promotions Manager for the Event thanked us for our sponsorship and support for the 2018 Fayre and said, “The enthusiasm and wholehearted willingness by you all to join in the Opening Parade and Onion Eating contest was admirable and we are mindful of the contribution you made throughout the day.”
A huge well done and thank you to all involved in making the event such a success.
